We all have a hideout, where we can slow down and simply enjoy the moment. Loch Garten is my place, its calm waters, surrounded by lush Abernethy forest and sheltered from the winds by snow-capped hills, always make me feel safe and at peace. On quiet days the water remains undisturbed, reflecting the trees and sky like a perfect mirror. You won’t meet many tourists or dog walkers at this time of year, and even in peak season the walking routes around its shores remain relatively secluded.
Let’s keep it that way.
My heart sank when I accidentally pulled the back of my camera open for a brief moment halfway through a roll of film. I forwarded a couple of frames just to be safe, but with the evening sun already hidden behind the horizon and low-hanging clouds settling in, the backing paper had done its job well enough to protect the film.
As daylight faded, I found myself adding about a minute to each consecutive, watching as the loch slipped into dusk with a stopwatch in hand, but the long wait was worth it.
